So there comes a time in an African American woman's life when she realizes the relaxer in her hair that she's had for years (in my case, since I was a kid) is only masking the beautiful, unique kinks that nature originally gave her. That cream crack perm we get used to doing ever so often straightens out every root that was meant to be there.
I understand that back in the day, many African Americans would use perms to conform to the Caucasian society as African Americans were mocked and called "nappy headed coons." Ok, so its 2011 now. A lot of black women are still religiously chemically hiding their roots, wearing weaves, wigs, and contacts. But why?
I'm happy to see more and more women getting rid of their relaxers and going back to their roots. It's inspiring. We are unique and we should be proud of that. Its sad to see some companies turning down people for employment because of their hair.
I have actually been trying to go natural since 2008 but had those withdraws. I'm glad to say i'm now on my 7th month of going natural and I'm NOT looking back. NEVERRRR!
The big question now is....when will the big chop happen? Yeah, so that's the scary part. I've watched so many videos of women cutting out the perm but I'm just not there yet. Its funny because when I wash my hair its this cute little fro and then on the outside is this limp, lifeless perm :/
I'm trying to hold on and grow it out but I'm still a slave to that flat iron. If anyone has any ideas for styles in the transition period where I can reduce the use of heat, let me know! :)

OH!
I forgot to mention I sold out and got that relaxer. I figured, it's about to be swimming pool, beach season. That means, a lot of after swimming hair. The way it was looking, after swimming, I would have to SPEED home to conceal my hair. It was a bit rough. So Its back to straight now.
Oh yeah, and bangs too. lol
Might throw some color in soon.
OR will the scissors be in effect ?
Stay tuned to find out.

2000 Visits!
So I'm in the process of making Second Hand Sugar High look like eye candy again & I realized I've reached 2000 views. =] I love you all.
Today was the 2nd day of classes. My history teacher is an awkward looking woman with squinty eyes and a bit of an underbite but she seemed nice. First judgments, thats all. She might be cool as sht, who knows. Then English 200, the dreaded class. Everything on the syllabus is about working on this 13 page paper for the whole semester. Shouldn't be too bad tho. This chick in class had the fresh perm.
It made me consider relaxing my hair finally. Its like halfway natural... Idk. I probably won't. But anywho,
Today, I don't know if it was the weather or just me getting used to VCU again but I felt like a rebel all day. lol You ever get that feeling where you wanna flip the bird at everyone. lol even the birds? Idk, irritable I guess.
ahah As im typing this is get a text saying "Sup Bxtch"
Crank caller, eh?
Last time I got a crank call/ text on a bad day I posted their number on Facebook, Twitter, all that & got a bunch of people to blow their phone up. They never effed with me again. =)
Well I'm kinda rambling now. Just waiting for my 7pm Cult Classic/ Midnight Movie film class. =] Nerdy but I'm kinda hype to see what its like. lol

Straighten Your Hair & Plant a Tree!
The beloved CHI broke so had to invest in a new flat iron. Knew it would cost a grip so had to do my research. Comparing the ratings, FHI is CHI's running mate. Apparently it's made by the same manufacturers though. But anywho, decided to try the new route and go with the FHI (which works wonders). I thought it was cute, they had different colors for different causes. Course, for the sake of Bambino, my bamboo plant, i got the FHI Earth. If you buy it, they plant trees. :] yay for earth and cleaner air! It makes you feel a little better about that $120 you had to dish out. They gave me a complementary gift tho: Brush, Clips, & some goop they call "Hot Sauce". Hmmm interesting. R.I.P CHI!

Get Your Hurrr Did.
So im going to color my hair. When I get bored I tend to change my appearance...eh. Sooo Im going to lighten it again and of course cut because I'm the queen of chop chop! But yeah, looking at different ways to dye it because typical is so.....well, typical. Ms. Santagold popped into my head so googled her and found pics from her Fader Magazine spreads. I came across this dope pic! Deff looks like something I'd be caught doing. Check the leggings man. Anywho, not to idolize but photography is bomb. Still waiting on my photoshoot, Juicy J.C.!
