Farewell Oprah

Today, Oprah aired her final show of her 25 year running talk show. She brought us some of the most historical people, celebrities, books, movies, and even jump started a lot of businesses with her Oprah Effect. Now she has her own network, OWN. Basically, there is nothing this woman can't do. But now that she's saying farewell, who will be the next Oprah?

Starting as a journalist and eventually becoming a typical talk show host, she could have easily fallen into the same catergory as Maury and Jenny Jones. However, she took a different approach, promoting more than just baby mama drama and confessions. She went beyond, bringing together high culture and pop culture, combining the two to bring together a product that works for all viewers. Her story is inspiring for me personally, as many journalism students a like. With the newspaper deteriorating and everything going online, along with reality TV taking over, we wonder what we can do to step it up a notch. That's exactly what Oprah did.

So with that in mind.....who will be the next Oprah? Is it possible ? I'm definitely about to start brainstorming :D

What You Need - The Weeknd

Lately there has been a lot of talk about the Toronto group The Weeknd and their album House of Balloons. Its a mix of sexy/ space-y R&B jams. They're actually really smooth and quite refreshing. I get the sense of a little 90's R&B inspiration in it. If you haven't gotten a chance to hear their music, check them out here.

"What You Need" is one of my favorites on the album. The video puts it in a new perspective but this song just does it for me, and I'm not even the slow jam type.

J is for Junkie [Full Length]

Corey Davis goes and gets the real story behind the lives of drug "junkies." The inside scoop that we dont typically consider.

Summer Time: Lazy Bones

It Summer. That means, no class and no job for me. So far I've just been riding around with my best, Bitty going to the beach, visiting friends, partying and such. I think I have a problem with not having any responsibilities or obligations. Like it was a completely turn around from when classes were in session. I was at the job every other day and when I was not at work I was in class striving to maintain that 3.0 + GPA.
Now its summer. Only one more year left of school and I'm a free'd bird. Guess I should really be planning for life after. Contemplating Peace Corps, Military Broadcasting, Grad School (in Cali?). Indecisiveness is a curse but its exciting and scary in one.

10 days until I ship off to Europe for my vacation. Germany and Amsterdam to be exact. I'm not gonna want to come back. But really excited. Many many pictures will be taken.

Anywho, just wanted to update. More to come, filling you in about my lazy days before things pick up full throttle again in a few months.
